A wireless network allows you to use your mobile device to access the Internet in specific places on the Scarborough campus, outside of computing labs.

UTSC has deployed a new wireless network identified as UofT.  The new network creates coverage for 95 percent of indoor spaces, including residences, heavily-used outdoor areas such as the H-wing patio, the space between H-wing and S-wing and the space between the Social Sciences building and the H-wing.  UofT wireless network is a secure WPA-2 Enterprise network and does not require a browser-based login each time you connect and supports wireless a, g, and n.  Also, it is significantly faster and has increased range.  The new network may not be compatible with some older 802.11a/b devices.

UTORwin, original wireless network, works with most wireless devices but requires you to login with a browser each time you connect and is limited to the wireless b and g standards.  Students are encouraged to switch away from using UTORwin as it is slower, less secure and not available at all locations.  By using the secure UofT network, you will benefit from higher bandwidth speeds as well as access point to access point roaming.  For UofT wireless network setup instructions, click here.   If you experience problems setting up and/or connecting to this network, please contact the Student HelpDesk at 416-287-7391.

The eduroam network at UofT is intended for visiting scholars from other participating eduroam institutions. UofT faculty and students can use eduroam at other participating universities.  Setup instructions will be available shortly.

Wireless Management

To provide a fair equitable wireless network access for all users, a new wireless management system has been implemented on the UTORwin/UofT/ResNet wireless networks. It is important to understand that the wireless network should be used for academic purposes, and thus traffic monitoring is in place to ensure no abuse of this service.  If abuse or malware is detected, your device will be placed on a remediation network.  While on the remediation network, users will only have access to University of Toronto's academic resources until they visit the Student HelpDesk.
