Connect to work computer from home.

Two ways for working from home:

  1. UTORvpn: Run business applications from home
  2. Remote Desktop (RDP): access your office computer from home

What is UTORvpn?StaffFaculty

UTORvpn will allow staff and faculty to connect to the U of T network using a U of T IP address and access certain restricted resources such as AMS and FIS. All traffic flowing to and from their home machine will be encrypted using TLS/SSL technology. Users will be required to log in with their UTORid and password each time they connect.

Please Note: In order to use the VPN, the current user MUST be an Administrator, or have administrative rights on their account. If the account is set to "limited" or "Power User", then the VPN connection will fail.

Remote DesktopStaffFaculty

RDP provides you the ability to remotely access your UTSC based desktop or laptop computer from your home computer or a similar computer located off-campus. It eliminates the need to take your UTSC computer to remote locations. Since most users have home computers and access to computers is commonplace, staff and faculty can access their UTSC based computers remotely, from where they choose.

Be sure to obtain permission to use RDP to work offsite. RDP locks your computer and screen so that others can't look or eavesdrop. This makes your workplace computer unavailable, should other users need it.

Please contact the IITS helpdesk to configure your office computer for remote access.
