Peer counsellors are senior students (typically 3rd or 4th year) who have been fully trained for these positions by Academic Advising & Career Centre staff.

Employment Peer Counsellors help students prepare resumes and cover letters, individually or in groups, critique job application forms and assist with interview preparation.

The AA&CC hires senior students (at least 3rd year) each year for the volunteer positions of Employment Peer Counsellor and Study Skills Peer Counsellor.

Recruitment takes place January to April for the following academic year. Eligible students must be going into at least 3rd year, be in good standing and available for training sessions in May and September.

How can I benefit from this volunteer program?

Excellent experiential learning opportunity for students interested in careers such as teaching, counselling, etc.
Develop skills relevant to career planning and job searching, counselling, advertising, human resources and leadership abilities
Work in an environment that is "team based", supportive and friendly
Provide you with an employment reference
Learn about writing, research and further develop communication skills

What are the requirements?

Senior (at least 3rd year) University of Toronto Scarborough student
In "good standing" academically
Available 3 hours per week and able to attend a meeting per term
Reliable, excellent communication skills, well organized, responsible
Enjoy working in a team environment
Available for training sessions (May and September)
