Examination Information
Missed or Deferred Final Exam | Consequences
Note your exam date, time and location carefully Students are responsible for reading the timetable carefully and appearing at the time and place specified.
Bring your student card Students are required to identify themselves at examinations by means of their University of Toronto student card.
Examination conflicts Check the Registrar's website for the deadline to report conflicts or exam problems. The University makes every effort to prevent the scheduling of overlapping final exams and three consecutive time slots, however, some conflicts are unavoidable.
Examination timetable conflicts Students scheduled to write two examinations at the same time should report their conflicts to the Registrar's Office, room AA142 during office hours.
Three consecutive exams Students scheduled to write three examinations in three consecutive time slots may request special arrangements:

If you are unable to write your exams Students are expected to write their final exams at the end of their courses. Occasionally, students encounter circumstances where it is absolutely impossible for them to do this. If you are ill or other circumstances prevent you from attending a final exam(s) check the policy regarding deffered exams.
Emergency exam cancellation In the event of an Emergency that results in the University cancelling or rescheduling examinations, please refer to the Registrar's website for further instructions.
Be fully prepared for your exams For professional assistance on how to study effectively and strategically prepare for both multiple-choice and essay-type exams, plan to attend a workshop or an individual study skills appointment with the Academic Advising & Career Centre,.
Final grades in 'Y' and 'S' section courses Once final grades become available to the Registrar's Office, they can be viewed through ROSI. Please keep checking ROSI as grades will be posted continuously.
It is your responsibility to be aware of the Rules of Conduct for Final Examinations.
Missed or Deferred Final Examination
- Students are expected to write their final examinations at the end of their courses and are strongly discouraged from deferring a final examination.
- The decision to defer your final examination should only be made under truly exceptional circumstances and only when there is no possibility of attending the examination
- Very occasionally, students encounter circumstances where it is impossible for them to write a final examination; for example, because of a serious illness or the death of a close family member. If you are ill or other circumstances absolutely prevent you from attending a final examination, you may file a petition to defer writing it until a later date.
- You are advised to consider talking to an AA&CC staff before making your decision to discuss the consequences of deferring an examination.
You cannot avoid suspension by deferring your final exam. For more information on deferred exams check the Registrar's office website.
Consequences:
- Failing the exam/course could affect your academic plan (extras, academic standing, subject post)

- You may forget the information
- Course load may be restricted
- Exam may be different
- You may not receive assistance from your previous instructor
- Consecutive exam rule does not apply
- Cannot enrol in any course if its prerequisite is the course in which I am sitting a deferred examination
